How Do I Apply?

If you are interested in joining a Competitive Program for Ballet, Tap, Jazz,

Lyrical, Contemporary or Folk, please contact the DWA office to discuss your

  placement.

  What are the requirements?

Beginner Competitive students must take a minimum of 2 classes per week.

Intermediate students must take a minimum of 3 class per week.  Advanced

students must take a minimum of 4-5 classes per week. Class minimum

requirements are for building the necessary technique involved with each level of

competition.

  What are My Responsibilities?

Students in the competitive program are responsible for their own practice time

outside of class.  Students are expected to know their choreography from

previous classes and are encouraged to practice at home and may also use the

studio during designated time slots if desired. Simply speak with Penny or Zoe to

  book a time.

Policies

Dance Works reserves the right to withdraw students from competition if they

have not committed to their training (ie. missed classes, lack of knowledge of

choreography, etc.)  A students who is at risk of mandatory withdrawal will be

given advanced warning and the opportunity to correct their behavior.  Though

DWA never wants to see a student unable to perform in competition, we feel it is

unfair to the student and the students classmates to enroll one who is

  unprepared.

Missed Classes - Students in a competitive program are expected to attend ALL

classes.  Injury, illness  and extenuating circumstances are the only exception.

It is important for the competitive students, especially group classes to attend as

every class involves new choreography and missed classes result in delayed

  advancement.

Student Withdrawal - If a student wishes to withdraw from the competitive

program they must do so in the first 2 weeks of the semester.  In the second

semester especially, a student who withdraws for reasons other than

injury/extended illness (medical withdrawal) may face re-choreography fees to

cover the cost of the teacher rechoreographing the piece.  If a student withdraws

in the second semester after a 2 week grace period then the student will not be

refunded their fees for the semester.   This does not apply to medical withdrawal.
