Professional Development
Program

What is PDP?
Dance Works has always been committed to encouraging serious dancers to pursue their dreams of professional careers.  This requires years of training and hard work.  Unlike the recreational dancer, PDP students will study more dance per week and start to build the strength and technique required to become a serious and technical dancer.  The PDP program is a combinations of technical & recreational classes.   This program is for the serious students who wishes to turn their love for the performing arts into a possible career path.  Whether you wish to be a dance instructor or pursue a career dancing professionally, DWA's PDP program will give you the stepping stones to get there.  For those wishing to teach, DWA can guide you through the examination process up to a teacher’s certification level. Penny Hudson can mentor students who wish to pursue a Diploma from the Royal Academy's Teachers Training Program. For more info on this please see the RAD website or speak with Penny.

In addition to the addition to technical classes in the PDP, Dance Works will also following:

                                   Teacher Pedagogy  (with Barb Kelly)
Professional Dancer Promotion (with Angela Lowndes)
Picking a Post Secondary Performing Art Institution (with Penny & Zoe)
Dance Exams 101 (with Penny Hudson)
How Much $$ Do Teachers/Dancers Make?? (with Penny & Zoe)

                                                                Acting Auditions

How much does it cost?
Dance Works understands that cost can often be a factor so we have implemented the unlimited for the price of 4 special this year which entitles students who wish to enroll in this program to take unlimited regular classes for the price of 4 classes (which are at a discounted rate). classes per week for the cost of 3. This does not apply to some of the competitive classes so speak with the Zoe for full details.

Student Responsibilities
Students accepted in this program must commit to all their classes for each semester.  All classes must be attended with the acception of sick days.  This is important for maintaining the students progress in each class.   Students are also responsible to practice on their own time and may use the studio to hold practice if they arrange it with the office first.

Examination
Examinations are strongly recommended for students who wish to persue a teaching career in dance.  Talk to the office about what examinations are available.
